The Planning Diary - Week of November 30th
My predictions on what will be NEXT week's biggest UK news stories
So LOTS happening next week and below you will find a flavour of what I will be focussing on in the coming days. Thanks so much to everyone for signing up to my weekly newsletter and any constructive feedback is welcomed.
This is still a bit of an experiment but it’s a gateway for all pitches etc so please feel free to reach out to me on Linked In, email me on carol.jordan@itn.co.uk or leave a comment below with any suggestions/pitches.
Brexit: Deal or No Deal
So it feels like deja vu and I feel like I’m replaying 2019 but Brexit is BACK! So will it be Deal or No Deal? I’m thinking about pieces on trade, travel, businesses etc but are there sectors that will be affected that I may not have thought of? Are there companies willing to open their doors to show our viewers what the effects of Brexit will be for them? Does anyone actually know what’s going on?
He’s not Santa but Barnier is back in town!
End of Lockdown
Are you in Tier 1, Tier 2 or Tier 3? What will December 2nd look like across the country? I predict unprepared shoppers (Like ME!) will be scrambling to the shops trying to get in that Christmas shopping or discovering the joys of dining al fresco in England during a cold December. Anything I’m not thinking of here?
Christmas Champions
We know Christmas 2020 is going to feel very different for some so do you know of anyone or a project / charity which is helping people to have a truly Merry Christmas this year? I’m looking for selfless Christmas Champions, people who are really stepping up to help others during the festive season for a series of films to be featured on our Evening News across the Christmas season. Look for the ITV News tweets.
Monday
Pfizer vaccine rollout???: Don’t know which day this is actually coming but it’s definitely going to be a gamechanger. Big questions about how it will be transported from Belgium, how it will be distributed etc.
Background to the vaccine from ITV News
Tuesday
Ofsted annual report to be released. No doubt that this has been a torrid year for the education sector so this ought to make interesting reading.
Wednesday
Spectators allowed back to watch the footie in Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas. Smaller clubs in these areas will hope that this relaxation of restrictions will allow much needed revenue to flow again.
Thursday
Fresh figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government: Affordable Housing Supply: England, 2019 to 2020.
I’m always interested in housing issues and any related angle so let me know if you have anything that could be pegged to these figures.
Friday
Is Friday the day that we see the return of theatre or pantos in Tier 1 or Tier 2 areas? Will the panto be a perennial favourite with a difference this year?
And what do the enhanced restrictions in Tier 3 mean for local theatres and arts centres? Presumably the Christmas season is a massive revenue driver. Are these establishments now at risk?
That’s It…
For this week. Feel free to get in touch any time. I’m always open to all ideas. Apologies but due to the volume of emails I receive, I don’t always reply to each one but I definitely take a look at every email or message.
Have a great weekend everyone!
